The German-language hardcover book Liber Auxilia provides all the rules you need to field the Solar Auxilia in Warhammer: The Horus Heresy. Each volume offers numerous rules and unit profiles – including equipment options, unique contingents, point costs, and advanced reactions – allowing you to precisely assemble your army.
Background:
During the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy, the Solar Auxilia formed the hardened elite core of the Imperial Army. Their soldiers wear fully sealed void armour, enabling operations in vacuum, toxic atmospheres, and radioactive debris fields. Discipline, formation combat, and finely tuned, long-range lasrifles give each cohort firepower that far surpasses that of regular humans. Supported by heavy artillery and robust tanks such as the Leman Russ, the Auxiliaries always operate as combined arms forces.
Organisationally, each force follows the example of the ten legendary Saturnyne "Rams" Cohorts: thousands of infantrymen are grouped into tercios, whose officers coordinate combat through targeted commands. Leman Russ Strike Tanks, Basilisks, and Medusas provide punching power, while Veletaris Storm Sections and Charonite Ogryns engage in close combat when needed. Aboard expedition fleets, Solar contingents are often the first to land on harsh planet surfaces – their sealing standard makes atmospheric conditions almost irrelevant.
With the outbreak of the rebellion, the Cohorts split along their command chains: some followed Horus into treachery, others held the first line of defence against the Warmaster in the Sol System. During the Solar War, the Auxilia proved that steel-hard drill and hermetic equipment could buy even Titan Legions time – a legacy that echoes into the 41st millennium.
