Best known as the Iosif Stalin 2 Tank (IS-2) it is also widely known as the anglicised Joseph Stalin 2 (JS-2) heavy tank.

Making its combat debut in early 1944, the IS-2 was primarily developed as a heavy tank to punch through enemy lines. It was able to withstand the powerful German anti-tank weapons and with its 122mm gun, it could even defeat the German Panther and Tiger tanks.

Box contains:
- 3 Soviet IS-2 heavy tanks in hard plastic
- A detailed tank commander
- A construction and painting guide
- A full-colour water slide decal sheet
- Bolt Action statistic cards for easy game reference
- Tank damage markers to add a realistic aspect to your games
- 8 multi-part plastic Soviet infantry as tank riders

IS-2s were assigned to independent heavy tank regiments and especially the elite Guard’s battalions. They were used to reinforce key areas of the Soviet attack and supported infantry in assaults by destroying fortifications etc. with their devastating high-explosive shells. Once the breakthrough was achieved, lighter Soviet tanks would stream through to breach and cause chaos in the enemy lines.

This IS-2 is the later variant with a sloped rather than stepped glacis plate. Known as the 1944 model IS-2, it blasted its way into the shattered remains of Berlin in the dying days of Hitler’s Third Reich…

One of the enduring images of the Soviet army in WWII is their tanks covered in Soviet soldiers passing by. These tank riders offered valuable protection from enemy infantry in a truly symbiotic relationship.
